Introduction to Whitewater Kayaking (Beginner)

For those new to whitewater or transitioning from flatwater.

  • Safety, gear, and river terminology

  • Wet exits and self-rescue

  • Basic strokes and boat control

  • Understanding currents, eddies, and ferrying

  • Reading water and choosing safe lines

Location: Calm Class I-II sections
Outcome: Confidence in moving water and solid foundational skills

Intermediate Whitewater Skills (Class II-III Progression)

For paddlers looking to refine technique and tackle more dynamic water.

  • Advanced strokes (draws, bracing, recovery)

  • Eddy turns, peel-outs, ferrying with precision

  • Reading river features (waves, holes, hydraulics)

  • T-rescues and rolling practice

  • River-running strategy

Location: Class II-III sections
Outcome: Greater technical skill, efficiency, and confidence in rapids

Playboating & Slicing Fundamentals (Freestyle Focus)

For paddlers wanting to explore dynamic moves and control.

  • Edge control, carving, and boat positioning

  • Surfing, flat spins, and stern squirts

  • Bow stalls and cartwheel initiation

  • Reading and using play waves and holes

  • Freestyle safety considerations

Location: Play spots with waves and features
Outcome: More control, playfulness, and progression in freestyle kayaking
